How to approach this passage
- Label paragraphs by function: public attention, the origin of the field, earlier expectations, applications and future uses. Match each question to its specific function.
- Keep a timeline of the periods mentioned. A difficult decade for a research field does not automatically mean that every year within it was the lowest point.
- For the True / False / Not Given group, look for evidence about prior collaboration, relative spending and the extent of success. Familiarity with modern AI cannot fill a missing historical detail.
- In the final multiple-choice questions, distinguish disappointment with broad theories from success with specific applications. The writer and individual researchers may describe different parts of that contrast.
Worked review example
A question asking where the expression artificial intelligence was first used needs the passage containing the historical naming event. A paragraph describing the film AI explains renewed public discussion, which is a different question even though both paragraphs concern the term.
Common mistake to avoid
Do not update the answers with current knowledge about AI. A historical passage is marked according to the information it supplies.
